http://www.toolstoday.com Watch as we create this Wooden Game Maze Puzzle with Steel Ball Bearing in 1-1/2” thick Oak and a 1/8” thick Acrylic using Amana Tool® industrial solid carbide and carbide tipped CNC router bits.
Andy Glass from Glass Impressions takes the following steps to create this custom Maze Puzzle:
Step 1
Amana Tool’s 1-1/4” diameter Mini Spoilboard CNC Solid Carbide Insert Knife Router Bit no. RC-2247 removes 1/8” of the oak to cut the pocket for the acrylic lid.
Step 2
Amana Tool’s 1/4” diameter Solid Carbide Spiral Flute Plunge Router Bit no. 46316 cuts two 3/8” holes for the alignment pins. Then, using a finishing pass, Andy cleans up the sides of the pockets he earlier cut for the acrylic.
Step 3
Amana Tool’s 3/8” diameter Solid Carbide Double Flute Ball Nose Spiral Router Bit no. 46378 creates the channel the ball bearing will fit in. Andy uses three passes in this step.
Step 4
Amana Tool’s 30° Solid Carbide Insert Knife V-Tip no. RCK-360 mounted to In-Groove™ tool body no. RC-1075 engraves the words “Start, Flip and Finish” into the Oak.
Step 5
Andy turns over the oak and repeats the each of the first four steps onto the other side.
Step 6
Amana Tool’s 1/2” diameter Solid Carbide Compression Spiral Router Bit no. 46190 cuts the pockets for the hand hold grips.
Step 7
Amana Tool’s 1/16” diameter Solid Carbide Spiral ‘O’ Flute Router Bit with Mirror Finish no. 51441 drills holes into the acrylic.
Step 8
Amana Tool’s 1/4” diameter Solid Carbide Spiral ‘O’ Flute Router Bit with Mirror Finish no. 51405 makes the profile cuts into the acrylic and creates an extremely smooth edge finish.
Step 9
Andy cuts the tabs loose with a hand saw and sands the edges smooth.
Step 10
Amana Tool’s 1/4” radius Carbide Tipped Corner Round Router Bit no. 49504 rounds the edges of the Maze Puzzle.
Step 11
Using dark walnut danish oil, Andy stains the wood finish, drops in a steel ball bearing then drills the acrylic cover onto the maze for final finish.
