What is a machining centre?
Machining centers describes almost any CNC milling or drilling machine that includes an automatic tool changer and table that clamps the workpiece in place.
In machining centers the tool rotates, but the workpiece is held still.
You will typically encounter vertical, horizontal, and five-axis machining centers which can pivot and mill or drill workpieces into almost any shape. Each, loosely, has its own benefits. For instance, it can generally be said that vertical centers are good for precision, whereas horizontal are good for production (although this isn’t a hard and fast rule).
Keep watching to learn about the benefits of each type of machining center in more detail and also to see a video of a 5-axis machining center in operation.
